Sam Spence and the Music of NFL Films

While watching some of the Superbowl commentary today, I saw Jim Brown offer condolences on the passing of the composer for much of the NFL Films music, Sam Spence.

Spence composed the iconic music we all know from the NFL brands including the video games.  He was actually brought in by a composer friend, Mahlon Merrick but when Ed Sabol’s heard some of Spence’s original orchestral work he offered him a contract.

Spence’s music has been used in numerous films and television shows and is instantly recognizable.
